Y's comfort at the cost of debt

Y and her husband came to SG in 2006 and built a g+1 structure with septic tank. In 2009, her husband passed away. While things were fairly stable financially at the time, somehow Y was unable to maintain a balance between earning, spending and debt. She expanded her house to g+2 structure, also renovating her kitchen in the process. In 2016, her shop was still thriving, but one of her son’s had an accident, and the other faced a deadline to pay his college fees. Unable to use her plot as collateral to raise a loan from public sector banks, she resorted to borrowing from a sahukar at exorbitant interest rates. In 2018, she faced a real threat of eviction from the g+2 comfortable house.
